Last week, we mentioned a few interesting Mommy Makeover facts that could be useful for those newborn mothers, women and also men, who are considering having this type of cosmetic procedure to improve their looks and appearance. So, let’s continue
Mommy Makeover Facts #5 – This is NOT a weight loss procedure
Cosmetic or plastic surgeries are not good solution for weight loss. The main goal of any plastic surgery is to improve physical appearance e.g. a nose job or to address some other medical issues e.g. back pain due to large breasts. That’s why plastic surgery shouldn’t be used for weight loss or to combat obesity.
Patients that have weight problems should first consider other weight loss alternatives (exercise, different diet etc.) and once they reach their ideal weight. If they lose a significant amount of weight and they end up with sagging or loose skin, they can undergo cosmetic surgery to take care of this.
Fact #6 – Will it help with stretch marks or cellulite?
You can achieve great results with the help of Mommy Makeover procedures. However, you won’t be able to get rid of stretch marks or cellulite. Unfortunately, they are here to stay after your pregnancy and are relatively permanent.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that there’s nothing you can do about it. In fact, there are other alternatives you can try to minimize them, including:
- Laser Therapy
- Microdermabrasion or
- Microneedling
Fact #7 – Healing take time
Every cosmetic surgical procedure takes time to produce the desired result. Recovery is a standard part and since Mommy Makeover usually involve two or more surgical procedures, the recovery will take a bit longer than it would with only one procedure. This is completely normal.
During the post-Mommy Makeover recovery, you should restrict or limit your daily movement or activities. Working out, lifting or physically demanding activities should be postponed for at least 2-3 months.
During the first two week after surgery, you should be resting and leave the household chores or parenting to someone else. It’s important to have a good support system.
Mommy Makeover Facts #8 – When can you expect results
The effects of a Mommy Makeover won’t magically appear. In fact, it will take some time for them to become more apparent. For some patients. It might take even 6 months for the full results to be visible.
Swelling after surgery is completely normal (don’t be alarmed) and that should resolve in approximately 3 months. It’s part of the body’s natural healing process and you should do everything you can to make it smoother.
Fact #9 – How long will the results last
Just like with weight loss, maintaining results is entirely up to you. Returning back to your normal daily routine is possible only when your surgeon tells you it’s safe. It’s crucial that you follow your doctor’s recommendation, as they will ensure that you achieve your goal and be happy with the end results.
It’s also highly recommended that you implement a different (healthy) lifestyle which should include a healthier diet, physical activity (exercise) and staying hydrated. This will ensure that you maintain the Mommy Makeover results for a long time.
We hope that these facts will clear up some of the most important things about Mommy Makeover, what it entails and who’s it meant for.
