How to keep your injectable results while under quarantine

These are truly unprecedented times for our society. The Covid-19 epidemic is affecting every part of the world and the United States haven’t been immune.

All elective and non-essential procedures are ‘on hold’ until the local, state and federal authorities deem the circumstances safe.

This of course affects a lot of people, especially those that undergo rejuvenating procedures such as Botox injections or dermal fillers. Patients that are ‘regulars’ under these types of procedures might have tough time scheduling their next procedure, mostly because they don’t know when they will be able to schedule it. So in order to make the effects of your previous procedure last as long as possible, here are some tips that you can use while under quarantine.

Sun exposure

Minimizing the exposure of your skin to Sun is crucial, no matter if you have received an injectable treatment or not. Skin damage, caused by too much exposure to the Sun is one of the leading causes of wrinkles. Injections like Botox are usually not effective against these types of wrinkles because they are superficial and Botox injections are focused on the underlying muscle structure.

Of course, many of you would like to spend time outside in order to make thing a bit less boring and to catch some fresh air. This is okay and actually recommended in order boost the body’s immune system. However, if you must be outside, we recommend that apply sunscreen with a higher SPF factor, especially to your face, neck and hands. These are body parts that are most exposed to the Sun and mostly show signs of aging.

Skin care routine

It’s important that you keep your skin care routine in order to keep your skin looking as young as possible for as long as possible.

In case you haven’t had a good skin care routine before, this time spent in quarantine is actually an ideal time to start. Make sure that you have a regular and sufficient water intake and that you use cleaners and toners for better results.

Supplements

There are numerous of studies which confirm that Botox injections react pretty well with the zinc in your body. So we recommend taking zinc in form of supplements to further increase the effectiveness if your Botox treatment.

Most people have zinc deficiency so taking additional zinc in form of supplements could potentially prolong the effect of Botox injections and produce a better anti-aging effect. And furthermore, zinc is also highly beneficial for your immune system which is important in this current situation.

Lower your stress

Stress has many negative effects on your body. Some of you might be stressed because of job loss, financial instability, or uncertain social or economic conditions. This is all understandable but you need to keep in mind that stress is show to ‘speed up’ the aging process.

A further cause of stress might be that you’re not getting your usual injectable treatment and you can get worried about your appearance. Instead, try and keep yourself away from mirrors, constantly checking your face, squinting etc. All this, especially squinting, can further stimulate the muscles where Botox was injected and it can wear off much quicker.

Stay in touch with your plastic surgeon

Even though we are all strongly advised to keep social distancing, many plastic surgeons might be able to offer you telehealth options and consultations over telephone of video calls. See if you could schedule an online appointment with your surgeon and see that you set up a plan to resume your treatment as soon as the coronavirus epidemic settles.

And to those of you who are still new to this i.e. didn’t yet have any injectable treatment but want to start, we recommend that you contact a board certified plastic surgeon and see what is his experience and schedule an appointment.
