What to expect from your recover?

There’s only thing that you need to be familiar with. Not every cosmetic surgery it a textbook surgery, meaning that every procedure is unique, even though they can be the same type of surgery. This is because every patient is different, unique and this makes the healing and recovery process a bit unpredictable. So here are some short but helpful tips on how to best recover.

  • The fundamental basics of a good post-surgical recovery are patience, well-balanced diet and plenty of rest
  • Avoiding strenuous activities for at least 2 weeks might be required after your cosmetic surgery. Some require more. In order to be absolutely sure, consult with your cosmetic surgeon
  • Ask your cosmetic surgeon for detailed tips

Rest helps faster recovery for cosmetic surgery

Proper rest and plentiful of sleep will do wonders with your cosmetic surgery recovery. Now rest might not come as easy at first, which is totally normal. You might feel soar, some pain, but try and find a good position and just rest.

Some patients reported lack of sleep which made them a bit emotional and started questioning their decision to go through the cosmetic surgery. In situations like that, you need to have a good support system (friends or family) that will help you through the first few days until you get comfortable.

In order to make the recovery smooth, you should organize your post-op room as comfortable as possible.

Keep yourself hydrated during cosmetic surgery recovery

In order to keep your recovery at an optimal rate, you will need to have a required water intake. And this is something that your surgeon will emphasize. Being hydrated improves your body’s reaction to possible infections and your body will be somewhat vulnerable to those after your cosmetic surgery.

Surgeons highly recommend drinking just plain water, so no sodas, soft drinks etc. And if you want to make things even more interesting, try squeezing some lime or lemon juice into your water. It will be refreshing, new (with some added taste) and you will intake some extra Vitamin C which can’t hurt.

Depending on the procedure you had done, you can do light and slow movements on the surgical site in order to maintain proper circulation. Your surgeon will be able to give you some tips on this.

Instructions from your surgeon

After every cosmetic, plastic surgeons give you tips and advice on what to do and you should follow them precisely. These are not medical information and they don’t override what your surgeon tells you to do after the surgery. If you have any concerns or unusual symptoms you should not delay, but contact your surgeon or nursing team and get advice on what to do.

When you follow your doctor’s suggestions, there’s a chance that you’ll recover quicker and more comfortable, and you’ll might hear these suggestions:

  • Those patients that have had breast surgery, should wear their compression garments as long as your surgeon tells you to.
  • Breast surgery patients shouldn’t wear any underwire bra during their recovery or for at least 6 months
  • If you have concerns, alert your surgeon and make sure to read your recovery guides
  • Good nutrition is key to a good recovery so don’t do any diets that restrict your intake.

Diet before and after your surgery

Before or after your surgery, we don’t recommend that you do ANY type of extreme dieting.

Naturally, if you have allergies to certain types of food, you need to discuss alternatives with your doctor to see what you will be able to replace them with. This is something you must disclose before the surgery.

You need to make sure that you have a balanced intake of fruits and vegetables before and after your surgery. Fresh fruits and vegetables will provide the necessary vitamins and nutrients your body will need in order to heal itself properly.

Cosmetic surgery patients should make sure that they have enough intake of vitamins E, D, C and A, then iron, proteins, fibers and zinc. These can all be found in almonds, fruit, lean meat, whole grain and seafood.

Take it easy!

Plastic surgeons understand that a lot of patients have commitments but they strongly recommend that they take it easy. Patients need to be mindful of their wound and be careful because one bump can set back the recovery.

Before you return back to your exercise routine, make sure that you’re first cleared by your surgeon. And even when you get cleared, take it gradually. You should first start with gentle movements, walking, without any lifting or strenuous activities. The important thing is to ease yourself in.
