When to Consider a Brow Lift Over a Facelift

Everyone wants to look their best as they age and sometimes one might consider a little assistance to help them do so. When looking into cosmetic surgery for that assistance, you first want to examine what it is about your features you’re wanting to spruce up. We’ve all heard of the procedure known as rhytidectomy (facelift), but is that the only solution?

It may seem a bit drastic to proceed with a full facelift, but if you feel your features are completely plagued with wrinkles, it might be a great procedure for you. However, most of the time individuals just want those unsightly brow wrinkles or excess fatty tissue hanging over the eyes to disappear. A brow lift will tighten the soft tissues of the brow and restore youthful tautness to the forehead, upper eyelids and eyebrows. Thousands every year undergo successful brow-lift surgery and are happy with their results.

When to Consider a Brow Lift

-Sagging eyebrows that make you appear tired or grumpy

-Deep horizontal creases across the forehead

-Excess fatty tissue or skin drooping over your eyes

-Frown lines between the eyes

3 Types of Procedures

  • Open brow lift. A long incision is made across the forehead and the skin is lifted away from the underlying tissues. The muscles are then loosened and the fat is removed. The surgeon then removes any excess skin, repositions it, and stitches the brow in its new position.
  • Endoscopic brow lift. An endoscope (a long, thin tube that has a light video camera to record) is inserted through the small incisions along the scalp. This is so the surgeon can see and work on the various structures in the forehead.
  • Limited incision technique. A mixture of both procedures above, this uses a small portion of the ends of the coronal technique incision to elevate the outside part of the eyebrows under direct vision without an endoscope.

Even with just focusing on the brow, it can make a huge difference in giving you that youthful appearance without having to undergo an entire face-lift surgery. Focus on what areas are important to you for improvement with a certified aesthetic plastic surgeon who can verify which procedure is right for you.

Remember, brow-lifts do not improve baggy eyelids or crow’s feet. It would be blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) that could improve those features. If you are in good general health, have a positive attitude and realistic expectations, you are most likely a good candidate for brow lift and eyelid surgery procedures.
