sleeping after facelift

It’s perfectly normal that we’ve always tried to turn back the hands of time. Sometimes we did this by looking for magical potions and now we try with the help of various cosmetic procedures. One of the many popular anti-aging procedures is the facelift.

The popularity of this procedure has been constantly growing over the years and for good reasons. Because it can truly do wonders in making your face look younger and fresh. But just like any other surgery that involves tissue manipulation, a facelift also requires some recovery time in order to achieve the best possible outcome and results.

Sleeping is crucial, and not just during the recovery time but for our overall health. With the help of good quality sleep, our body can bounce back quicker, we boost our immune system and the tissue (that was damaged during the procedure) can heal better. However, during the post-operative stage of a facelift surgery, getting good quality sleep isn’t as easy as it sounds.

What’s a facial surgery or facelift?

Facelift is a facial rejuvenation surgical procedure that both lifts and tightens the sagging tissue on your face. By doing this, your cosmetic surgeon restores the youthful and fresh look, so you’ll no longer need those scarves or turtlenecks. A facelift is a good surgical option to turn back time, if you have:

  • A double chin
  • Sagging neck skin
  • Midface drooping
  • Drooping skin between your nose and mouth, also known as nasolabial folds
  • Drooping jowls or fading jawlines

When you have facial surgery, the cosmetic surgeon will excise and remove the excess sagging facial skin, smooth your face and provide better facial contouring by lifting the deep facial tissue. And if you also have an aging and sagging neck, your surgeon might also do a neck lift along with the facelift to make you look both younger and better.

What can you expect during recovery?

One of the main questions and concerns we receive about facelift is how soon will the patient look presentable after surgery. This is totally normal, because unlike every other part of your body that can be “tweaked” with cosmetic surgery, you can’t really cover your entire face with clothes.

Right after surgery, the incisions will be covered with bandages in order to protect them and to apply gentle pressure to reduce swelling. You can definitely expect to have some bruising and swelling. It’s totally normal after a facelift or any other cosmetic surgery. But that should last only for two three days.

At the end of the first week, the bandages will come off, your surgeon will remove the sutures and the bruising will noticeably face. By the end of the second week, it should be completely gone.

Even though a facelift is a procedure that normally takes 2-4 hours, the recovery is a bit longer and it can take between 2-4 weeks. During this time (and afterwards too) sleeping is crucial and the way you sleep can greatly influence in how fast and well do you recover from a facelift.

In our next post we will dive in a bit more in what is the best recommended way to sleep during your facelift recovery. So stay tunned!
