Most of our have a pretty active lifestyle, and if you’re having breast augmentation (or boob job if you will) you will need to pause your regular visits to the gym for a while. Yes, we know, you really want to get back on the treadmill and work out, but taking it slowly could be really beneficial for you.
Some of us are real junkies when it comes to exercise which usually include jogging, crossfit, dance aerobics, various sports and HIIT.
One thing to keep in mind is that every breast augmentation patient is different. Someone’s body ‘bounces’ back from surgery a lot faster than others, and that is totally normal.
So let’s assume that it’s been a while since you had your breast augmentation and your plastic surgeon has cleared you to go back to the gym. Yaay!
There’s one thing you need to keep an eye out. First and foremost, you shouldn’t engage in high-intensity exercise after breast augmentation. Your surgical area might look completely healed and there are no indications that something isn’t right, but know that you had to take some time off from the gym and your body (and your new breast) will need to adjust and get ‘up to speed’. So for the first six weeks after surgery, take it easy.
In most cases, your plastic surgeon will recommend doing some mild and not so intensive exercise before you can ‘switch’ over to high-intensity. This is a routine procedure for all cosmetic breast surgery, not just breast augmentation.
Before renewing your gym membership, make sure that you absolutely consult with your doctor. This especially implies for the first few weeks or months after surgery. Another thing that you should do is listen to your body. If your body is giving you signals that you should slow down or even stop, do so.
Breast augmentation patients should take enough time to recover from their surgery. This time is impacted by many factors and can vary from patient to patient. Usually your recovery from breast augmentation is affected by:
Your diet and nutrition
- How well you follow the post-op instructions
- The size of the implants and the health of your skin
- Type of surgical procedure used and
- Your overall health.
So during your post-op care you should follow your doctor’s instructions and before returning back to the gym, visit your doctor. He will most likely to an exam of the surgical area and give you good tips on how best to get back into shape.
