When it comes to facial plastic surgery, there are many various types that a patient might choose. Each person has a different need or wants when it comes to facial plastic surgery, and thankfully, odds are, there’s a surgery available to suit their desire. However, many people won’t even go in for a consultation because they’re unsure of what they need is even available. Below is a basic list of the various types of facial plastic surgery available on the market today.
Lifts
Most are familiar with a facelift because it’s mentioned in connection with celebrities quite often. However, when it comes to lifts in facial plastic surgery, there is more than just a facelift.
Blepharoplasty – This is basically known as an eyelid lift. This is a surgical procedure that takes drooping upper eyelid skin and tightens it. This type of lift can also be performed on the bags often obtained under the eyes.
Rhytidectomy – This is a fancy word to describe the surgical procedure used to do a facelift. In general, this procedure tightens the face, neck, and muscles, while also removing excess fat in the face. There is also a lower rhytidectomy which focuses on the lower neck and basically accomplishes the same thing, just lower down on the neck.
Forehead Lift – This surgical procedure tightens skin and muscles in the forehead while also removing excess skin in order to rid the foreheads of wrinkles and droopiness.
Fills and Implants
One of the more common types of fills that the average person is familiar with are lips fills. However, there are actually a couple of types of fills for various areas of the face. These “fills” are often referred to as augmentations and when done as a plastic surgery procedure, the filler is commonly an implant.
Lip Augmentation – This is what the classic lip fill is referred to. A piece of the lip is hollowed out and then filled with an implant.
Malar Augmentation – This is a cheek filler or implant surgery. An implant is placed under the cheekbone in order to fill out the face a bit more.
Jaw Implants – This surgical procedure uses implants as fillers in order to enlarge the lower portion of the face around the jaw.
Mentoplasty – This is a surgical procedure that has a two-fold meaning, however, both focus on reshaping the chin area. The two options are either having bone removed to make a chin smaller, or using implants to reshape the chin in general.
